If you choose this pack this means you will be practice intensely your Portuguese by attending out of classroom lessons and by contact with local community. You will be participating in sport and cultural activities, including surf training class, traditional festivals and various field trips and excursions.
This program is excellent for students learning Portuguese language and for those who are searching for a Portuguese speaking country as a study abroad destination to improve the Portuguese level.
Nazaré, Portugal
Nazaré is considered the oldest fishing village, generally accepted as the country’s most typical beach. Located in the western part of the country, one hour north from Lisbon, the town is known for its giant waves ( Official Guinness World Records title for the Largest wave surfed ) as well as for its gastronomy. Not only does its waves attract Portuguese from all over Portugal, but also students and tourists from all over the world, who come to visit Nazaré as one of the most popular big wave surf breaks on the planet.
Participating in the Language and Culture Exploration program provides a perfect opportunity to practice and expand Portuguese language skills. Living in CASA MATÉR with a local family provides not only language practice, but a true immersion into portuguese lifestyle. Additionally, you can expect many of traditional meals to be joint prepared.

Landing at the Humberto Delgado Airport, Lisbon, Portugal we head North, one hour distance, to Nazareth one of most beautiful beaches in western Portugal.
Upon the arrival we settle in at CASA MATÉR where you will be lodge for the inetire program. In the following days we will be having orienting sessions to the progression of the program and learning about safety issues. Afterwards we will meet with language teachers engaging in some introductory lessons on Portuguese culture and history. We also take time to get to know each other and the community around us.
If you select Program (June 17 2019), we will end the week at St John Porto festivities the largest saint’s festival taking place on the evening of the 23rd of June, carrying over to the 24th of June.
In week 2 and third we will travel along western coast of Portugal at the same time that we will have portuguese lessons out of classroom. Our weeks are defined by intensive language study, outdoors activities, and engaging with the local community.
We will spend 3-4 hours per day in portuguese language class, focusing on listening and conversation skills. The rest of the day we will be spending in outdoors activities and visiting historical places as well as explore independent study&leisure interests.
We will end the week in Lisbon and go at Ribatejo region’s biggest festival,Colete Encarnado.
As our program nears the end we explore more areas Western coast, we wrap-up our Portuguese studies and also spend time learning about traditions from local community members.
We close out our time and studies together in a beautiful spa where we reflect on our journey, our language acquisition, and prepare for the transition home.
